Ladies and gentlemen of the press, it is with great sense of professional fulfilment I stand before you today to present to you our achievements in Lagos State Command since my assumption of duty approximately a month ago. Before you today we have a total of thirty-four (34) suspects who have engaged in varying crimes including armed robbery, stealing, cultism and unlawful possession of firearms etc.
From all these cases which we successfully cracked, we recovered a total of sixteen (16) firearms including a toy pistol, seventy-two (72) live cartridges, seventy-five (75) live ammunition, one expended cartridge, one pistol magazine, six axes, four daggers, one digger, five cutlasses, two (2) vehicles, one POS Machine, fake registration plates and various charms.
Find below a summary of these aforementioned cases:
- ROBBERY AND UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF FIREARM: On January 11, 2024, at about 2130hrs, operatives of the Command arrested one Idowu Yunusa ‘m’ aged 25 who was seen attacking with intent to rob a passerby around Igando. One locally made shot gun was recovered from him.
- UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF FIREARM: On January 11, 2024, at about 1530hrs, operatives of the Command arrested one Damilola Ontinride ‘m’ aged 36 who was seen loitering around Mile 12 area. One locally fabricated baretta pistol with one live ammunition was recovered from him. He is suspected to be a member of an armed robbery gang.
- UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF FIREARM: On January 11, 2024, at about 1500hrs, officers of the Command arrested one Rilwan Kareem ‘m’, Adejumo Noah ‘m’, Oluwadade Oluwasegun ‘m’ and Babatunde Raheed ‘m’ who were stopped and searched based on their suspicious movement within Aguda area. One locally fabricated double barrel gun was recovered from them.
- SUSPECTED CULTISTS: On December 17, 2023, at about 2300hrs, based on credible intelligence that some group of boys suspected to be members of a confraternity are planning to retaliate their leader’s death on other rival cult members in Ayobo area of Lagos State, Police operatives of the Command were dispatched to the area where one Quadri Mukail ‘m’, Adedoyin Azeez ‘m’, Olayinka Ayodele ‘m’, Orefunwa Olamide ‘m’, Olabode Idowu ‘m’ and Anuoluwapo Ojo ‘m’ were apprehended in possession of one berretta pistol with two cartridges and one axe.
- CONSPIRACY AND STEALING: On December 28, 2023, detectives of the Command, based on a complaint, arrested one Lukman Alabi ‘m’, Bukola Raji ‘f’ and Kabirat Gambari ‘f’ in connection with the diversion of 600 bags of rice. The suspects confessed to the crime, some bags of rice were recovered and released to owner. Investigation in progress.
- CONSPIRACY, ARMED ROBBERY AND RECOVER OF ARM: Operatives of the Lagos State Command arrested one Toheeb Oyekunle ‘m’, Victor Jimoh ‘m’, Samuel Okanlawon ’m’, Segun Babatunde ‘m’, Pelumi Ajuloye ‘m’, Mohammed Ibrahim ‘m’ and Bello Ahmed ‘m’ in connection with the invasion that took place at at Iju Ishaga area of the state where the suspects snatched an AK47 rifle from a police Officer. The suspects confessed to the crime and other criminal activities within Lagos and environs. One cut to size AK47 was recovered from them.
- CONSPIRACY AND CULTISM: On January 11, 2024, at about 0100hrs operatives of the Lagos State Command, upon credible intelligence concerning activities of some hoodlums terrorizing Ikorodu and its environs, swung into action, and arrested one Balogun Tola aka 50 ‘m’ aged 35, Tunde Oladipupo ‘m’ aged 43, Rasa Ridwan ‘m’ aged 27 and Abimbola Aro ‘m’ aged 29 in connection with cult related activities. The following items were recovered from them: Three English double barrel gun, one pump action gun, one reining model 700 rifle, one locally made pistol, Seventy-Four rounds of live ammunition, Sixty-Eight rounds of cartridges, one baretta pistol magazine, four battle axes, Three daggers and Five cutlasses.
- CONSPIRACY AND CULTISM: On January 3, 2024, at about 2230hrs, wanted notorious and deadly cultists who were involved in a series of cult related killings in Ijora Badia and its environs were traced to their hideout in Ibeju Lekki area of Lagos State where the duo of Christian Obadiah ‘m’ aged 30 and Opeyemi Musa Khadiri ‘m’ aged 30 were arrested. One Lexus RX 300 white in colour and Volvo Wagon XC70 ash in colour, one blue beret, one POS machine, Eight rams and various charms were recovered from them.
- CONSPIRACY AND ARMED ROBBERY: On November 22, 2023, at about 2300hrs, operatives of the Command arrested one Adebayo Ojo Micheal ‘m’ aged 28 and his cohorts (still at large) who were in the process of dispossessing an uber driver of his vehicle around Eti-osa area of Lagos State. A locally made single barrel cut-to-size gun was recovered from him.
- UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF FIREARM: On December 5, 2023, at about 2300hrs, operatives of the Command arrested one Lukmon Jimoh ‘m’ aged 35, who was stopped and searched based on his suspicious movement within Ibeju-lekki area. One locally made pistol, one toy pistol, one cartridge, one dagger and one axe were recovered from him. He is suspected to be a member of a one chance syndicate.
- CULTISM: On January 13, 2024, at about 1030hrs, operatives of the Command arrested one Olamilekan Tajudeen aka Ebila ‘m’ aged 38, a wanted and notorious cultist leader who was involved in a series of cult related killings. One locally fabricated automatic baretta pistol was recovered from him. Effort is ongoing to arrest other members.
- SUSPECTED CULTISTS: On December 26, 2023, based on credible intelligence that some group of boys suspected to be members of a Confraternity are planning to retaliate their leader’s death on other rival cult members in Golden Estate Abisoye area of Lagos State, Police operatives of the Command were dispatched to the area where one Rafiu Odeyemi ‘m’ aged 23 and Wesu Babatunde ‘m’ aged 23 were apprehended in possession of one locally made pistol.
- ROBBERY AND UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF FIREARM: On December 30, 2023, at about 0220hrs, operatives of the Command arrested one Yahaya Abubakar ‘m’ aged 36 who was seen loitering around Igbo-Elerin. One locally made double barrel pistol with one live and one expended cartridge was recovered from him.
- OCCULTIC PRATICES: On January 13, 2024, at about 1500 hrs, based on credible intelligence that some boys were seen making occultic pratices around Agufoye area of Ikorodu, operatives of the Command swiftly arrested one Ifeanyi Nwodo ‘m’ aged 39 and Dainel Johnson ‘m’ aged 32. Investigations revealed that they were trying to set up their occultic shrine named ‘Indian Occultic Temple’ with intent to defraud victims by making them believe that the oracle has powers of making them rich and successful. Several occult items including moulded human head, crafted human effigies were found in their shrine.
All suspects are to be charged to court at the conclusion of investigation.
I use this medium to assure Lagosians that the Command under my watch would continue to do everything operationally possible to ensure that crime and criminality is brought to the barest minimum in the State.
