As part of ongoing Police reform process under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun PhD NPM, the Nigeria Police Force in collaboration with the German Security Foundation (GS-Foundation) and UNDP has concluded a two-day Train-the-Trainer workshop aimed at strengthening the response to Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV).
The workshop which held from June 10 to 11, 2025, in Abuja, brought together selected Gender Desk Officers in the NPF. The training focused on trauma-informed, survivor-centered policing and building facilitation skills to cascade knowledge within their zones and units.
Through adult learning strategies, scenario-based exercises, and peer reflection sessions, participants improved their investigative capacity, communication techniques, and understanding of psychosocial support for survivors.
Key recommendations included scaling up the training nationwide and establishing a digital database for tracking SGBV cases across all police stations, a step seen as crucial to enhancing accountability and restoring public trust.
The initiative reflects the Force’s commitment to a more professional, inclusive, and citizen-focused policing model.
