
FUNCTIONS OF SCENE OF CRIME/FORENSIC SCIENCE
LABORATORY SECTION
Forensic Section is a professional/Specialist Arm of the Nigeria Police that renders support to Investigators within and outside the Force. The Section has a Forensic Laboratory at Force CIID Annex Lagos with a Commissioner of Police Forensic and Eighteen (18) other Officers. The Abuja Head Office has a Commissioner of Police Forensic as Head and Twenty-Nine (29) other Officers. The Section is made up of the following units and their functions mostly in Lagos and some functional units in Abuja:-
AFIS UNIT
Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) for enrolment and profiling of suspects. This section handles digitalization of our manual records in Central Criminal Registry (CCR) in Lagos. A Biometric System has been deployed in FCIID Abuja for suspects capturing. Also six (6) Biometric systems were deployed to six geopolitical zones (Maiduguri, Kano, FCT, Awka, Lagos and Portharcourt) as approved by the IGP. The unit also courier fingerprints of Nominees/Appointees and Job/Visa applicants to Central Criminal Registry (CCR) in Lagos for clearance and issuance of Character Certificates.
