The Airport Police Command was created in September, 1985 by the then Inspector General of Police and was subsequently upgraded to a Command status on 1/6/2006. However, modalities to make the new structure successful are still not in place. The Airport Police Command is under the supervision of the DIG ‘A’ Department, Force Headquarters Abuja. The Command is in charge of all Airports in the country with total staff strength of 685 personnel headed by CP J. Olatunji Caulcrick (Fsi).

SYNOPSIS OF CRIME PREVENTION/ACHIEVEMENTS

A total number of four hundred and seventy 470 cases were recorded during the year under review. While 246 cases were charge to court, 74 cases convicted, 173 cases were awaiting trail and 77 cases were under investigation. Also a number of 362 persons were arrested in connection with the cases, 190 persons prosecuted, 85 persons convicted, while 87 persons are awaiting trial. Lost during the year under review is property worth ₦58,220.00 while property worth ₦25,542,643.54 (USD 271,275) was recovered. The Airport Police Command also drafted Mobile Police Force, Counter-Terrorism Unit and Bomb Disposal Unit into the sensitive Spots to foretell any ugly incident.
